A shocking study revealed the existence of a dangerous effect of Botox injections, as it can affect the human brain.
Many people use Botox injections for cosmetic purposes, as it tightens the face and hides wrinkles effectively and easily, but now researchers have found that Botox affects the activity of some areas in the human brain.
Botox injections work by injecting a compound called “botulinum toxin” into the face, in areas such as the forehead and around the eyes and mouth, so that the compound works to relax the muscles under the skin by blocking the nerve signals that cause them to contract.
However, UCLA researchers in collaboration with Botox maker AbbVie conducted brain scans on 10 women before injecting Botox into the forehead and once more 2-3 weeks following the procedure.
During the tests, the researchers asked the participants to try to identify feelings and expressions of anger and happiness in the pictures of the faces.
The researchers found that Botox injections altered the activity of areas of the brain associated with emotional processing, such as the amygdala and fusiform gyrus.
The researchers explained that the results of the study indicate that Botox not only affects the human ability to express emotions by affecting the facial muscles responsible for smiling, frowning and other expressions, but also hinders the brain’s ability to recognize the expressions of others.
