What is the cheapest cell phone in the world? It’s in Brazil?

Here at Oficina da Net we classify cell phones as entry-level, intermediate and top-of-the-line. Since there are “expensive” entry-level phones and “cheap” top-of-the-line phones, this classification allows us to compare all tested phones and find the models that make the most sense for the consumer, whether for photos, games, portability and general use.

However, there is a cell phone category that doesn’t even make it to our lists: the super cheap ones. These are cell phones that are already obsolete from the factory, usually with specifications well below what we are used to seeing.

Or cheated you know dear

It is for this reason that we do not even recommend these models here on the site, since for a hundred, two hundred reais more, you can acquire a much superior product. After all, what’s the use of having a cell phone if it’s locked to the point where you don’t even want to use it? Sometimes the cheap turns out to be expensive. That’s the importance of the minimum value – it keeps us out of trouble. Personally, I believe that this minimum amount is between R$900 and R$1000. Paying less than that, we are buying a device that has poorly implemented functions, low quality components and that will get old and stuck in a short time.

What is the cheapest cell phone in the world?

There is not a single cell phone that can be considered the “cheapest in the world”, as prices vary from region to region. However, a device that became famous for being extremely cheap was the Freedom 251released in India in 2016 by Ringing Bells.

At the time, it cost just 251 rupees, the equivalent of R$16. But what are the specifications of this monster? 4-inch screen, 3-megapixel rear camera, 0.3-megapixel selfie camera, quad-core processor and 1 GB of RAM running Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Okay, pretty modest specs, even by 2016 standards, but for 16 reais? The cell phone raised hype and many suspicions until the day of launch: Everything went wrong, the site was soon offline because of the thousands of hits and the unlucky ones who managed to buy it received a product very different from the advertisements.

It turns out that the Freedom 251 prototype delivered to the media and reviewers was, in reality, a Chinese-branded cell phone. Adcom disguised with white paint.which threatened to sue India’s Ringing Bells. However, since the final product delivered to buyers was a completely different cell phone from the model presented in the media, they did not proceed with the process. Even so, the company’s CEO was arrested for fraud and threatening a client with death.

The Freedom 251 was sold for approximately one year and around 5,000 examples were delivered to buyers. In the end, the company’s CEO was arrested for fraud and most customers did not receive their devices.

What is the cheapest cell phone in Brazil?

In Brazil we can buy extremely cheap cell phones. All are manufactured in China, even those from Brazilian brands such as Multilaser and Positivo. The cheapest one we can buy at the moment is the Positivo P26, for R$84. It is very different from the Smartphones we see around – in fact, it is not even “Smart”: here we have a cell phone very similar to the ones we had a decade ago: No internet access, terrible camera, no touch screen and super slow .

Reading the reviews, I came to the conclusion that most people buy this phone for their parents or grandparents. In fact, if all you need is a device that can make and receive calls, the P26 might not be such a bad idea. But for any other functions, choose another device. He doesn’t even have a little snake game!
