What is “locking to the birdie”? Why in a neighborhood of Bello “there were effects” after burning marijuana

The burning of 1,678 kilos of marijuana in the North America sector, in the municipality of Bello, affected residents of the sector, as some stated that they felt a sensation of headache, general malaise, and some of them indicated that they achieved “birdie”, but is it possible for this to happen?

“Trabarse a lo pajarito” is a phrase widely used in the streets of Medellín, to refer to people who, without smoking, are receiving all the effects of marijuana through smoke. This fact is described by the inhabitants of the north of Valle de Aburra, who lived during the burning of this seizure.

According to Dr. Hugo Gallego, a toxicologist at the University of Antioquia, by inhaling so much concentrated marijuana it can be absorbed and leave the effects of intoxication on people.

“These effects can dizziness, altered perception, nausea, feelings of hopelessness, panic and fearGallego said.

For its part, a study conducted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), indicated that people who do not smoke and are in a closed space with others who did use marijuana, feel mild subjective effects of the drugwhich will generate deficiencies in the performance of motor activities.

Although this smoke does not affect people’s health, Gallego pointed out that the authorities must be careful with the burning of marijuana and “do it away from residential units and houses, as this generates acute symptoms”, mentioned the doctor from the University of Antioquia.

“The authorities must have a defined space to carry out this process because this can also contaminate the environment, and affect the health of animal species,” Gallego concluded.
