What is the Log format?
Log, as Apple makes clear, is a format that retains more information from the exposure data in the recorded video file, such as shadows and highlights. It was created by Kodak in the early 1990s and is used extensively in the film industry.
With captures like this, you end up having several benefits, such as the ability to edit colors more accurately and obtain greater dynamic range. This way, you have more details than in a recording in normal formats.
One negative point of the Log is that, when it is viewed in its “pure” form — that is, without any editing — it has a “washed out” appearance and many shades of gray, as we can see in the example below. Basically, an image with almost no contrast or saturation.

Therefore, you will need to use dedicated software to make the edits and make the video look more common, as we are used to seeing. Himself Final Cut Pro (from Apple) already offers the possibility of editing videos in this format, taking advantage of all its flexibility and dynamic range.
To those interested, Apple made it available on its Developer portal a document (white paper) complete information regarding the Apple Log Profile and also LUTs corresponding to its own Log format.

How to film in Log on iPhones 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max
To choose to record in Log, open Settings, tap “Camera” and “Formats”. Then turn on “Apple ProRes”, choose the menu below “ProRes Encoding” and then “Log”.
Then, open the Camera app and tap the icon for the ProRes Log feature to start recording on the iPhone’s internal memory or on an external storage device, if you prefer.
