Former Indian player Akash Chopra pointed out the lack of wicket-taking options as one of the weaknesses of Team India going into the Asia Cup. The tournament will be held in the United Arab Emirates from August 27 to September 11. India will be without the services of pacer Jasprit Bumrah who is out due to injury.
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Chopra pointed out that India will rely on Chahal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar to get wickets.
“I don’t see any wicket-taking options in this team. UC Chahal is my real wicket taker. Bhuvneshwar Kumar should also be a wicket taker. Apart from them I don’t see wicket takers, they look to defend runs. Batters only get out if they try to hit the bowlers.”
“The fast bowling is very inexperienced and that too very little. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josht Khan, Arshdeep Singh – you go with three fast bowlers and Hardik is the fourth fast bowler.”
Chopra demanded that Deepak Chahar be included in the Asia Cup squad.
“Deepak Chahar is with the team, so include him. Other teams have 17 or 18 man squads, so you should do the same. I feel the fast bowling is weak.” Suggested by Akash Chopra.
Deepak Chahar is one of the three reserves for the Asia Cup along with Axar Patel and Shreyas Iyer. The player returned to international cricket following a prolonged injury during the recently concluded ODI series once morest Zimbabwe.
