What is data extract? – Extract of data from the Pharmaceutical Product Database (DPDB) – Health Canada

2024-02-01 19:20:00

The data extract is a series of compressed UTF-8 files from the database. The uncompressed format takes up approximately 65 MB. To use the data, you must load the file into an existing database or information system. Typical users are usually third party reviewers, provincial drug formularies, insurance companies, etc. To use the file, the casual user must be familiar with the structure of the database and be able to formulate their own inquiries. The “Readme” folder contains the data structure required to download the compressed files.

The BDPP extraction files now contain complete information on all approved (ap_filename.zip), marketed (filename.zip), canceled (ia_filename.zip) and dormant (dr_filename.zip) products for human, veterinary, disinfectant and radiopharmaceutical.

For more information about the structure of the data extract, see the readme file.
