What is changing in the operation of the Metro?

Peloponnese Newsroom

In order to serve the participants of the 41st Athens Authentic Marathon, on Sunday November 10, Lines 2 & 3 of the Metro will operate from 5 am, half an hour earlier than the usual start time of traffic.

As for Line 1 of the Metro, it starts operating at 5 am and no change had to be made to serve those participating in the 41st Athens Authentic Marathon.

At the same time, STA.SY, for the better service of the passenger public, is proceeding to strengthen the Metro routes and increase the frequency of train crossings next Saturday between 14:00-19:00 and on Sunday from 7 in the morning until the end of Marathon. For this reason, it runs 2 additional trains on each of the 3 Metro Lines.

On Line 6 of the “Pikrodafni – Syntagma” Tram, by order of EL.AS, from 2 in the afternoon on Saturday until 8:30 in the evening on Sunday, the routes will have a terminal station at the “Fix” stop.

**Interview with Alexios Papadopoulos, Event Coordinator for the Athens Marathon**

**Editor:** Good afternoon, Alexios! Thank you for joining us today to discuss the upcoming Athens Authentic Marathon. It’s exciting ⁢to see the preparations ⁢underway ⁢for this year’s event.

**Alexios:** Good afternoon! Thank you for having me. We’re thrilled about the‍ marathon and all ‍the excitement it brings to the city.

**Editor:** The marathon‌ route has garnered quite a bit of attention, especially with its unique terrain. Can you ⁢tell us more about what participants can expect from the course‌ layout?

**Alexios:** Absolutely! The Athens Marathon spans 26.2 ⁢miles and is known for its scenic yet challenging landscape. Participants will⁤ start on a relatively flat section for the first 12 kilometers, which is great‍ for ‌warming⁣ up. But they should be ready for the subsequent 19 ‍kilometers, which feature gentle hills that‍ add a‍ nice challenge to the race.

**Editor:** That sounds thrilling but also quite demanding. Speaking of preparations, I understand that public transport will ‌be adjusted to ⁤accommodate the participants?

**Alexios:** Yes,‌ that’s correct! ⁣To ensure everyone can easily access the event, Lines 2 and 3 of⁣ the Metro will start operating at⁣ 5 am on⁢ Sunday, November ‌10, which is half an hour earlier⁢ than usual. This‍ adjustment is specifically to help participants and spectators‌ get to the marathon without any hassle.

**Editor:** That’s a great initiative! With so many people expected to attend, how are you handling ⁣logistics and safety?

**Alexios:** We‍ have a comprehensive plan in place, including increased security measures and medical support along the route. Our team ⁣is working closely⁤ with local authorities to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants and spectators.

**Editor:**⁣ It sounds like you have everything under control. Any final thoughts for ⁣those considering participating⁢ in this year’s marathon?

**Alexios:** I would encourage anyone who’s thinking about ⁣it to go for it! ‌It’s not just a race; it’s a celebration of sportsmanship and our beautiful city.‍ Plus, the energy from the crowd makes it truly special. We can’t wait to see everyone on the course!

**Editor:** Thank ‍you, Alexios! We appreciate your insights and wish you a successful marathon event!

**Alexios:** Thank you! We’re looking forward to an amazing day!
