What if drinking enough water delayed aging?

A study suggests that drinking at least 1.5 liters of water a day would reduce the risk of chronic diseases and help to age well.

As part of a balanced diet, Drinking enough water is essential. Moreover, prevention campaigns remind us that water and milk are considered to be the only essential drinks. However, the amount to consume per day is debated.

But the drink remains necessary to properly hydrate the body. This applies both throughout the day and after intense effort. But what we did not know until then was that the drink would also help the body to “stay young” by avoiding the development of certain diseases.

In any case, this is what American researchers say in a study published on January 2 in eBioMedicine. They noticed that the drink would have the effect of slowing down aging. However, surface aging of the body (ie wrinkles) should be distinguished from internal aging.

A large-scale study conducted over 30 years

In order to better understand the impact of water on aging, the researchers studied more than 11,000 volunteers. These were between 45 and 90 years old but above all they were followed for 30 years.

The aim of the study was to examine in detail the effect of sodium levels in the blood on the body. However, this is closely linked to the amount of water we consume each day. The less we drink, the more our sodium level increases. However, the researchers noticed that a high sodium level would trigger cell inflammation. These accelerated the appearance of diseases and therefore the internal aging of the body.

To reach these conclusions, the researchers took as a basis sodium levels considered normal. Then they compared them with those of the volunteers followed. While a normal rate is between 133 and 141 millimoles per liter of blood, it is necessary to be alerted if that exceeds 142 millimoles.

How does water delay the aging of the body?

This level indeed marks a separation between our real age and the biological age of our body. Clear, if we don’t drink enough water, our body is actually older than we are.

However, water in all its forms (infusion, broth, etc.) is beneficial for our health. In addition to keep our body at the right temperaturethe drink allows transport minerals throughout the body.

It also allows toeliminate all toxins accumulated by changing into urine. Finally, she promotes the renewal of our cells and improves blood circulation. All these elements make it possible to maintain a biological age close to our real age, to delay aging and avoid premature death.
