Reports on social networks warn Cubans this week of a scam that is being repeated with Café La Llave, introduced to the country from south Florida, by emigrants from the island. These events are happening in eastern Cuba.
According to Facebook user Marian Ramírez, in the Revolico group in Holguín, street vendors, presumably from Santiago de Cuba, are selling this La Llave coffee, sealed, but inside it does not contain the precious grain, but rather sawdust.
“Please do not buy this package of La Clave coffee, what is inside is sawdust, it is sold by an elderly man over 60 years old, a person of color, well dressed and with a yarei jaba, they say they are from Santiago,” the user specified.
The complaint was shared almost 500 times, directly from that group. Meanwhile, hundreds of people commented on the incident, which has been repeated in other parts of the eastern region.
“You only buy what you need from street vendors. Scammers have no face, age, or appearance”, “It’s a shame. You have to know how to compare the original and the invented, the package shows that it is not original” or “On top of what it costs and the unscrupulous people doing their thing”, were some of the reactions.
La Llave coffee scam and other more recent ones.
In addition to this scam with Café La Llave packages, other similar cases have been reported in other provinces. Less than a week ago, a case of alleged adulteration of a product came to light in the province of Sancti Spíritus.
Journalist Delia Proenza from the local newspaper Escambray reported the situation following purchasing a package of adulterated coffee at the interprovincial terminal, from a private MSME.
His personal experience revealed a problem that, although it has not been officially confirmed, generates concern among consumers.
The Proenza article sparked a debate regarding the need to strengthen controls to guarantee the quality and safety of products sold in the province.
