After more than two years without receiving an update, Apple finally released the second generation of iMac equipped with Apple Silicon at the event “Scary fast” (“It will give you goosebumps”).

Now how chip M3 (with 8 CPU coresCentral processing unitor central processing unit.”>1 and 8 or 10 GPU coresGraphics processing unitor graphics processing unit.”>2), Maçã’s all-in-one continues with the same laid-back look, available in seven vibrant colors.

Inside, few things have changed other than changing the processor, as we will see below. Still, for those who want to stay on top of all the nuances, this article is worth checking out. ????️

More unified memory option

The three standard configurations of the new iMac have a unified memory of 8GB — which unfortunately may be too little for some.

Still, until the last generation, the maximum that might be added to computers was 16GB; With the arrival of the M3 chip, you can now configure them at the time of purchase with 16GB or even 24GB (new option).

Connectivity

The modules of Bluetooth e Wi-Fi have also been updated. In the case of Bluetooth, we now have the standard 5.3 (compared to the 5.0 of the 2021 model). Wi-Fi has been updated to standard 6E (802.11ax)compared to last generation Wi-Fi 6.

Regarding ports, we continue with two configuration options: on the entry-level iMac model, we only have two Thunderbolt/USB 4; In the intermediate or top-of-the-line version, four ports, two Thunderbolt/USB 4 and two USB 3.

Weight

The weight of the entry-level model has also been slightly changed. The version with the M1 chip and two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports weighed 4.46kg. The new one, with the same two doors, weighs 4,43kg. In practice, of course, this affects nothing…

What hasn’t changed

Otherwise, everything remains exactly the same as the iMac with the M1 chip. This includes color options (blue, green, pink, silver, yellow, orange and purple), measurements and other technical aspects such as SSD configuration (which remains at 256GB, 512GB or 1TB for the entry-level model, equipped with two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports; and 256GB, 512GB, 1TB or 2TB for the four-port model).

Furthermore, all peripherals (mouse, trackpad and keyboard) continue to be equipped with a Lightning port (no USB-C, for now), matching the color of the computer itself — with braided cables also in the same color.

Although prices have decreased here in Brazil, in the United States they remain the same, too. The entrance, with two doors, leaves from US$1.300while the four-door model starts at US$1.500.
