What happens when you put an electric car in Park position at 130 km/h?

Having already discovered a bug in his Rivien R1T, an owner continues to explore its secrets, positioning the car on P while driving.

Daniel Goldburg, driver in the IMSA category, has already caused a stir when he discovered, despite himself, that his Rivian R1T could also perform Reverse Launch Control. However, the owner seems very curious, and has just discovered that the pick-up could stop by activating the P position of the drive control.

So here is another funny discovery, which Daniel Goldburg has once again posted on social media, in order to know if this operation was normal. And this is indeed the case, as many users and connoisseurs have pointed out to him.

Just a safety procedure for this Rivian R1T

Like all cars with an automatic transmission, or rather without a manual control mechanically linked to the gearbox, the P position engages a part which blocks the transmission. However, for safety measures (if the brake becomes inoperative or if the driver has a health problem), it is possible to bring the car to a standstill with mode P.

The procedure may be different from car to car. At Rivian, you have to keep pressing P to activate the emergency brake. In others, you have to press the button several times to start the operation. In any case, it is an emergency procedure, with a very strong deceleration. Not to be reproduced, therefore, except in cases of absolute necessity. In the meantime, Daniel Goldburg has not been the whistleblower he thought he was, and has simply discovered an additional safety net, although indicated in the user manual.
