What happens to your body when you don’t eat breakfast?

A large number of people neglect breakfast or eat very small amounts of food, which is usually unhealthy and does not benefit the body because they are busy going to work and performing daily tasks or not wanting to eat at all.

A team of researchers at the American Mount Sinai Medical Center revealed that not eating breakfast causes a reaction in the brain that leads to a decrease in the function of the immune system.

The study was published in the journal “Immunity”, in which scientists conducted an experiment on two groups of mice, one group ate breakfast, while the other group did not eat the meal. According to Russia Today.

The researchers collected blood samples from both groups following four hours and following eight hours.

After the experiment, the researchers noticed a clear difference in the samples taken, in particular, a difference in the number of monocytes, confirming that following four hours, their number decreased by 90 percent in the blood of mice that did not eat breakfast.

These immune cells are a type of white blood cell that is produced in the bone marrow and plays many important roles in the body, from fighting infections to heart disease and cancer.

The scientists found that in starving mice, the production of new cells decreased in the bone marrow. At the same time, monocytes began to age unexpectedly, even though they lived longer. These altered monocytes caused inflammation, which makes the body less resistant to infection.

Scientists have identified specific areas of the brain that control the response of monocytes during fasting. Numerous studies have shown the benefits of fasting for weight loss, control of diabetes and other diseases.
