What happened to the hospital 25 Zaragoza of the IMSS

Travel across town for a consultation

With the fall of the hospital that was built in 1969, 46 offices, 272 census beds, nine surgical rooms and six X-ray rooms were lost, according to IMSS data.

In different medical units, the 225 doctors and 431 nurses who work there were relocated and together they provided 11,000 specialty consultations and performed 9,000 surgeries a year.

“HGR 25 was of that size and importance,” said the general secretary of the IMSS, Javier Guerrero, two years ago.

The more than 400,000 beneficiaries who attended that hospital struggle, as they have for five years, to receive medical attention.

In response to a request for transparency, the IMSS indicated that the patients were channeled to the General Hospitals of Zone 29, 27 and 48. These medical units are located, respectively, in San Juan de Aragón, in the Gustavo A. Madero Mayor’s Office; in Tlatelolco and Azcapotzalco.

So IMSS members who live east of Mexico City travel to the north and west of the capital to receive medical attention.
