It was via the orange Alert Us button that Nadine contacted us following being arrested by a police officer. The agent found that her driver’s license dates from 1969, and he would have warned her that she was going to receive a fine of 85€. The reason ? His license would be “no longer valid”, because “too old”. Nadine intends to oppose this PV if it should happen. What exactly does the law say?

During a routine police check in Auderghem on July 17, Nadine presented her driver’s license and a bad surprise happened to her. A police officer warned her that he was going to impose a fine of €85 on her because her license was “too old”.

Having a document dating from 1969, the policeman would not have wanted to hear Nadine’s explanations. “He told me that the photo no longer looked like. It was his only argument because everything else was in order. I even said, ‘Okay, give me a warning, but not an 85€ fine. And he replied ‘Listen, I would have let it pass, but my boss didn’t. This is the answer I got“, she assures.

The future will tell me if I will receive a PV or not.

Directly following being warned by the agent, Nadine went to a police station in her town. “In the followingnoon, I went to the police station of my municipality to find out when I have to change my paper license“. And there, the verdict falls: her driving license is still valid until… 2033. She therefore explains her misadventure and asks if a report exists in her name. The policeman explained to her that for the moment, he finds no PV for her.”The future will tell me if I will receive a PV or not“, she observes.

Indeed, she fears that the municipality of Auderghem will send the report to the municipality of Boitsfort, where she resides. However, she wants to be calm and thinks that her fine will not be sent. “I tell myself that, since everything is computerized, they might have seen right away if I had a fine“, she says. In any case, if she has to receive a fine, she will not let it go. “Yes, I will challenge“, she asserts.

But what exactly does the law say?

On the FPS Mobility and Transport website, it is explained that “Since 2013, the paper model driving license has been replaced by the bank card model driving license. This driving license has a administrative validity of 10 years maximum“.

But what regarding those who still have the pink license? “By 2033, at the latest, all old paper driving license models must be replaced by bank card models“, specifies the FPS Mobility.

Currently, Nadine still does not have a ticket in her mailbox. “So I guess I won’t get anything. But no idea of the delay between the control and the sending of the PV“, she explains. In the meantime, she went to redo her driving license so as not to have any more problems during a next check.
