What do we know about the massacre in Guerrero where 12 people died? – The financial

Violence continues in Guerrero and on February 20, a massacre occurred in the municipality of San Miguel Totolapan that left 12 people dead, as confirmed this Wednesday by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

At the beginning there was talk of 17 people whose bodies were cremated following a shootout between members of the Sierra Cartel and the Michoacana Family.

“There has been an operation in the region since yesterday, these are events that happened in the mountains, in Tierra Caliente, in Guerrero. It is presumed, without having all the information, that it was a confrontation between criminal gangs. So far there have been 12 confirmed deaths, this according to the 11 p.m. report, with elements of the National Guard already at the site,” López Obrador detailed in his conference.

The Sierra Cartel would be associated with the Tlacos and following these events, they displayed the bodies of their rivals, who were killed.

What were the cartels that clashed in Guerrero?

Images of members of the Sierra Cartel, in military-type clothing, who mock their rivals from La Familia Michoacana, circulated through social networks.

A video also shows how they stack the bodies and set them on fire to burn them. Then they shoot at them once more while threatening the brothers Johnny and José Alfredo Hurtado, ‘El Pez’ and ‘El Fresa’ respectively, leaders of the Familia Michoacana.

In other images there is also a warning towards the mayor of San Miguel Totolapan, Fredy Vázquez. “Sincerely, the 21st, Cártel de la Sierra, pure people from the 80s,” is heard in the video.

The Guerrero prosecutor’s office said that ministerial personnel went to the community of Las Tunas, where they only found the charred remains of 5 people of unknown identity, but an investigation file was opened for the crime of qualified homicide.

AMLO announced in his morning conference this Wednesday that more information regarding this case will be released during the day.
