what do we know about the Disney+ series?

In May 2020, we learned to everyone’s surprise the launch of the development of a series Percy Jackson coming to Disney+. If the two films adapted from the literary saga had obtained honorable results at the box office, they did not, however, leave an imperishable memory for moviegoers.

A second chance for the Percy Jackson saga

More than two years later, the project seems to be on very good track and we now know its title: Percy Jackson and the Olympians. We know in particular that the author of the books, Rick Riordan, will himself take charge of writing the first episode of the series and that he will officiate as executive producer. The duo Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz, who wrote the screenplay for Black Sails, officiate as showrunners.

From the point of view of history, we have also just learned a little. We will therefore follow Percy, who discovers links with the Greek gods of Olympus. He then embarks on a very dangerous quest to try to save his mother threatened by Hades.

And precisely, his adventure will lead him to cross paths with a monster well known to fans of the saga. This was revealed by Rick Riordan on his website. He specifies as follows:

And now for the TV series. I’m off to another exciting day of production. I think we may meet the Minotaur today.

Remember that we cross paths with the Minotaur in the first film Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief. The latter kidnaps Percy’s mother and then finds himself in his way several times.

Besides history, Percy Jackson already has a pretty solid cast which augurs well. One thinks of Walker Scobell (Adam through time) who will play the hero and main character. While Aryan Simhadri (Spin) et Leah Jeffries (Beast) will play his partners Grover and Annabeth.

It is still too early to know the release date of Percy Jackson on Disney + but as we can see, the entertainment giant has every intention of giving this franchise a second chance.
