The Pakistan Cricket Board has proposed to play a day-night test in the two-match series scheduled next month in Karachi.
Chairman PCB Ehsan Mani said that ‘the aim is to encourage day and night cricket and to break the problem of dwindling fans’.
Chairman PCB said, “We want to have at least one Test day and night in the home series. Apart from the large number of spectators, this will give us an opportunity to extend our cricket season.” .
He said that ‘in Pakistan, if the season ends in mid or early April, we can extend it by day and night matches’.
Ehsan Mani said, “It is not appropriate to play Test cricket in empty grounds and with that in mind, we hope that the spectators will take advantage of this unique experience when they return from their work in the evening.”
Regarding day and night test cricket, he said that ‘currently every test playing country has started day and night cricket and we believe that at least one day and night test should be played in the series’.
He said that ‘Indian captain Virat Kohli, who was somewhat hesitant about day-night Tests, has now become its ambassador after the recent home series against Bangladesh, so it augurs well for the future. ‘.
It should be noted that Bangladesh and India recently played a day-night Test which was the first Test in their history while Pakistan has played four Test matches so far which were against Australia, West Indies and Sri Lanka.
Pakistan faced defeats against Australia and Sri Lanka but defeated West Indies by 56 runs in Dubai Test in 2017.
Pakistan has also experimented with day and night Tests in domestic cricket and in 2011, the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final was played for the first time at the National Stadium Karachi.
Test cricket is being revived in Pakistan after ten years this month when the Sri Lankan team will arrive in Islamabad for two Tests.
It should be noted that a series of two Tests and three T20 matches is scheduled between Bangladesh and Pakistan in January 2020, but it is not yet clear whether the Bangladeshi team will come to Pakistan or the series will be played at another location.
