Trans fats are the bogeyman of fats. It is a matter of unhealthy fatty acids, the fats you should avoid. trans fats arise wheneverhealthy vegetable oils hardened by industrial processing. During this process, the liquid oil becomes a lubricating grease. In addition, trans fats when oils are heated very strongly. This is the case, for example, in a fryer. Trans fats are mainly found in Fast Food and ready meals, Bakery products and munchies like chips and popcorn.
So you can avoid the unhealthy trans fats
Trans fats increase the “bad” cholesterol in the blood, which can lead to serious health consequences, especially for overweight people and diabetics. Trans fats are said to promote diseases such as heart attacks and strokes. You should therefore pay attention to the following hidden trans fats in your diet:
- Trans fats are often listed on ingredient lists as “vegetable fat, partially hydrogenated” or “unsaturated fat, contains hydrogenated fats.”
- Trans fats are mainly contained in fast food dishes such as burgers and fries, but also in baked goods such as croissants or donuts. In addition, the unhealthy fats are found in chips, popcorn, and other snack foods.
- You shouldn’t eat more than 2.6 grams of trans fats per day. However, a croissant already contains around one gram of these unhealthy fats, and a donut even up to two grams.
- Certain oils are extremely heat sensitive and contain a very high proportion of trans fats. These oils should only be consumed cold. These include pumpkin seed oil, sesame oil, edible linseed oil, grapeseed oilwalnut oil and wheat germ oil.
- Also forming trans fats: butter, coconut oil, margarine, extra virgin olive oil, extra virgin canola oil and extra virgin sunflower oil.
