Water makes up a large part of the human body, and is present in almost all body processes. “It is involved, for example, in the functioning of cells, intestines and metabolism, a process that will generate energy for the human body”, says nutritionist Talyta Machado, who works in Brasília.
The nutritionist explains that the ideal amount of water is calculated by multiplying the individual’s weight in kilograms by 35 ml. By not drinking enough, the body gives signs that the person is dehydrated. Here are some signs that you need to drink more water:

1. Fome
According to Talyta, giving up the ideal consumption of water can cause confusion in the body. “One of the signs of dehydration is mistaking thirst for hunger, for example,” he says.
The sign is related to dehydration especially if the craving is for salty or starchy foods, which retain water in the body. The false feeling of hunger can disrupt the body’s functioning, but it can be resolved by drinking enough water.
2. Headaches
Headaches can be caused by numerous factors, and one of them is dehydration. By not drinking water, the nervous system signals that the body needs more water causing discomfort. Suffering can be resolved with liquid instead of painkillers.
3. Intestine taken
Failing to drink enough water can slow down the process of excretion of feces, which leads to a trapped intestine frame. “The liquid lubricates the joints, body tissues and facilitates the movement of feces through the digestive tract, which even prevents excessive effort to evacuate”, says Talyta.
4. Tiredness
Dehydration can cause fatigue in the person who does not drink enough water, as the consumption of liquid helps in the oxygenation of various organs, including the brain. The lack of fluid affects the speed at which blood, and consequently oxygen, travels through the body, which causes the feeling of tiredness.

5. Sunstroke
While heat stroke is a condition much more associated with exposure to extreme heat, it can occur due to dehydration. “In sunstroke, the person loses water and mineral salts. If she is already dehydrated, the situation will occur faster and even more seriously”, says the nutritionist.
6. Slow metabolism
Drinking water is one of the pillars for weight loss, as liquid accelerates metabolism and increases caloric expenditure. Therefore, being dehydrated means converting less food into energy and retaining more calories.
“With the low volume of water in the body, the body does not perform all cellular activities as it should. It will prioritize what is most important to keep you alive and reduce activity and energy expenditure exactly to keep up with the low amount of water”, highlights Talyta.
