The Venezuelan Financial Observatory (OVF) recently reported that the Petare Basket was at 1,523 bolivars, the equivalent of 41.78 dollars, according to the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV) rate, which was at 36.45 bolivars for this Tuesday, July 2.
This means that a Venezuelan needs at least 12 minimum wages to buy the eight food products that make up the basket, since the salary remains at 130 bolivars or $3.56, since March 2022.
These prices were consulted by the organization between June 23 and 29, which represents week 26 of 2024.
Petare basket in week 26 of 2024
-A carton of 30 eggs: 180 bolivars or $4.93
-A package of corn flour: 48 bolivars or $1.31
-One kilogram of white cheese: 190 bolivars or $5.21
-One kilogram of meat: 320 bolivars or $8.77
-A package of coffee: 480 bolivars or $13.16
-A package of rice: 65 bolivars or $1.78
-One liter of oil: 175 bolivars or $4.80
-A packet of sugar: 65 bolivars or $1.78
The OVF indicated that the price of the Petare Basket had a variation of 0.40% in bolivars and an increase of 1.42% in dollars, in relation to the price of the basket published on June 26, 2024, which includes prices between June 16 and 22.
The organization’s data also showed that the basket had an interannual inflation of 48.30% in bolivars and 8.59% in dollars.
June basic family basket was almost $590
Inflation was also reflected in the price of the basic family basket for June 2024, which, according to the Documentation and Social Analysis Center of the Venezuelan Federation of Teachers (Cendas-FVM), stood at $587.78.
In light of this, the organization warned that a Venezuelan needs to pay at least 166 minimum wages to buy the 61 products divided between food, personal hygiene and cleaning.
Oscar Meza, president of Cendas-FVM, reported on July 1, through his account on X (formerly Twitter), that the basket is designed for a family of five members. So far, the organization has not detailed the categories that registered the highest inflation rates.
According to Cendas-FVM data, the basic family basket increased by 6.91% in relation to that of May 2024which was priced at $547.13.
“The cost of the food basket is 547.13 dollars, in bolivars we are talking regarding 21,786.87 bolivars. It increased by 0.9%, it is a slight increase because it was 186.74 bolivars with respect to the price of the basket in April and in dollars it fell by 5.19 cents (…) In the month of May, 167.59 minimum wages were required to cover the basket,” said Meza in an interview with the newspaper Successes Circuit The 21st of June.
These are the products that registered a price increase in May of this year, compared to April:

-Meats and prepared foods: 1.84%
-Fish and seafood: 1.66%
-Milk, cheese and eggs: 1.27%
-Fats and oils: 1.24%
-Fruits and vegetables: -1.53%
-Roots, tubers and others: 0.66%
-Grains: beans, peas and lentils: 0.09%
-Sugar and salt: 0.39%
-Sauce and mayonnaise: 0.52%
-Café: 0,11 %
