Disney fans will have to wait a little longer to see the company’s new films, following the company announced a shake-up in showtimes.
On the list there are a number of new parts of films that have already been shown, and the audience is eagerly awaiting them, such as “Marvel”, “Star Wars” and “Avatar”, according to US media reports.
“Avatar” producer Jon Landau wrote on Twitter that the filmmakers needed more time to complete the sequels.
Disney gave no reason for the delay.
The move comes as the Hollywood writers’ strike continues, which some believe is causing production to halt, and this might have an impact on release schedules.
“Films like this can’t be made without written scripts, despite what some critics might say, and with writers currently out of work on them, there must be a delay,” says Gizmodo.
Perhaps the most significant of the set announced Tuesday is the launch of a new installment of “Avatar,” a sci-fi series set on the fictional moon of Pandora. The release of the third part, “Avatar 3”, has been postponed to December 19, 2025.
“Avatar 4” will be delayed for several years, to be released on December 21, 2029, and the fifth part will be released in December 2031.
And the Associated Press reported that director James Cameron, who released the first “Avatar” movie in 2009, said that he may not participate in directing the fourth and fifth parts.
And by December 2031, Cameron, who is 68 years old, will be 77 years old.
Avatar producer Jon Landau wrote on Twitter: “Each Avatar movie is an exciting, yet epic project, and it takes time to get to the level of quality we as directors strive for, and to the level audiences expect.”
The other important movie parts expected are for the Star Wars series.
He now plans to release two of them in 2026 – one of which was pushed back from December 2025 to May 2026, and another was added in December 2026. The studio hasn’t released a new Star Wars installment since 2019.
He also announced another amendment to the release dates for the bulk of the “Marvel” series, most notably: “Avengers: Kang Dynasty”, which was postponed from May 2025 to May 2026.
Other changes to Marvel’s releases include delaying most films by a few months.
And the movie: “Captain America: Brave New World” will open in July 2024, instead of May 2024.
Then comes Thunderbolts in December 2024, Blade in February 2025, and Fantastic 4 in May 2025.
