What are the most common types of cancer in the Gulf countries?

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Breast cancer and colon cancer are among the most common types of cancer in the Gulf countries, according to the official account of the Omani Ministry of Health via the social networking site “Twitter”.

The official website of the World Health Organization indicated that cancer is a major cause of death worldwide, and the disease killed 10 million people in 2020.

Both men and women can get breast cancer, and symptoms include pain, redness, irritation, puckering, a change in skin thickness, or swelling in any part of the breast.

The appearance of new lumps, whether in the breast or under the armpit, is also a worrying symptom, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Control (CDC).

When it comes to colorectal cancer, the incidence of it is increasing among young people, and the average age of patients being diagnosed is declining.

Symptoms of the disease include diarrhea or constipation, the feeling that you are not completely emptying your bowels, in addition to the presence of blood in the stool, frequent pains or cramps due to gas, weight loss without a known reason, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting.

The Omani Ministry of Health stressed the importance of early detection, and recommended that people aged 40 years and over undergo a mammogram examination every one to two years when it comes to breast cancer, and undergo an annual examination from the age of 45 years and older when it comes to colon cancer.
