When you’re looking to lose weight, there are dozens and dozens of diets promising to shed extra pounds or erase small bulges… Often, they all boil down to 2 guidelines:
- adopt a healthy and balanced diet (even if the permitted and prohibited foods vary depending on the diet),
- practice regular physical activity.
Bad habits that prevent you from losing weight
But, sometimes, despite all our efforts and the restrictions imposed, the result is not there…
Losing weight is far from a makeover. And the more restrictions we are subject to, the more we are tempted to break! But not all differences are equal! A Spanish study1 thus seeking to define which bad eating habits had the most serious consequences… on the scale!
The bad habits that make you gain the most weight
THE 3 worst eating habits most often associated with weight gain are:
- Do not plan the quantity of food you are going to eat,
- Eating in fast food restaurants,
- Eat while watching TV.
Implicitly, this study also suggests that other ‘bad eating habits‘ would make you gain less weight. This applies to the eating reflexes examined during this study, namely: eat canned foodto buy food at vending machineof eat out or even eat while sitting on a sofa or an armchair… which would therefore be less detrimental in terms of weight gain ! For experts, this is due to the fact that in the situations mentioned above, we often have a choice. On the other hand, beware of misunderstandings! If some ‘bad’ eating habits fare better than others, the study only looked at the weight parameter! Getting fat doesn’t necessarily go hand in hand with being in poor health.. So if certain habits are ‘less bad’ and do not cause you to gain too much weight… they can still have consequences on your general health, potentially worse than the 3 eating habits that make you gain weight the most!
