Adi Hütter and his team sparked euphoria in the principality. In the SN conversation he explains how he achieved this.
After the international break, Adi Hütter, former coach of Red Bull Salzburg, will be away in Lorient on Sunday to defend his lead in France’s Ligue 1. The Monaco coach, who caused great euphoria in the Principality with a sensational start to the season, recharged his batteries for a few days in his house in Seekirchen. And the former Salzburg European Cup hero took the time to chat with SN regarding his first weeks in Monaco.
The 53-year-old managed to convey his philosophy of football to the professionals in a short time. With early, aggressive pressing and a lot of courage to go offensive, Hütter and his team won the hearts of football fans in the principality. That’s not easy because in Monaco they only come to the stadium when the club is enthusiastic. That’s what Hütter’s team did in the first games of the season and did the best for the home games once morest Nice and Marseille.
Hütter already feels at home in Monaco: “I spent the first two months here in a hotel, which was very practical, but recently I found a nice house where I feel really comfortable. Monaco itself is of course special location, but I’m not here to sightsee or meet celebrities. Basically, I just drove from the hotel to the training center and spend most of my time there. You can feel comfortable there, the atmosphere high above Monaco is beautiful.” The Vorarlberg player has so far been able to successfully implement his plan to play fast and attractive offensive football. His players, who come from many different countries around the world, have implemented the guidelines almost perfectly so far. There are no problems with communication: “Basically English is spoken. The employees also speak very good English. This means you can get through wonderfully in all areas,” said Hütter. He really did it very well.
Despite the strong start to the season, Hütter remains cautious. “We played four rounds, got off to a good start, nothing more and nothing less. Of course we want to get back to the international places, the club will be 100 years old next year, so it would be great to play in the Champions League.”
He also looks at the viewer numbers with a smile. They prove that Hütter won many friends with his style in Monaco. The previous two home games attracted 19,500 spectators, the average is higher than last season (7,095). And he will increase. Because in the next home games, the derbies once morest Nice and Marseille, there is much to suggest that the Stade Louis II will be sold out with 18,500 fans for the first time in years. “Monaco is an absolute top club, it’s great fun to work here. The training opportunities are fantastic, you have to look for something like that, it’s really impressive. Overall, we have very high quality in the team.” Which might also play a good role in the German Bundesliga? “Germany is a top league and France is a top league, physically very strong and technically good,” explained the former coach of Frankfurt and Mönchengladbach, who also praised the high quality of the ÖFB selection. “I’m also happy that Austria is going to the European Championships,” emphasized Hütter and reveals: “The goal of working as ÖFB team boss one day might appeal to me.”
