(CNN Spanish) — The year 4721 begins on the Chinese calendar. 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit. Chinese legend holds that Buddha asked all the animals to find him on New Year’s Day and named a year after each of the twelve animals that came.

The animals of the Chinese calendar are the dog, the pig/boar, the rat, the ox, the tiger, the rabbit, the dragon, the snake, the horse, the sheep/goat, the monkey and the rooster.

Also, according to legend, people born in each animal’s year have some of that animal’s personality traits.

Rata

Those born under the sign of the rat are “wise people who like to surround themselves with family and friends,” says the Confucius Institute Magazine from the University of Valencia. They are good workers, savers and good administrators.

Ox

It symbolizes patience and tranquility, they are people who project affection and respect.

Rabbit
