The Foreign Ministry told whether it was possible to evacuate the Belarusian pilots stuck in Sudan.
“Six Belarusian citizens left Sudan for Egypt across the land border, working for Sudanese companies under private contracts, and not for a Belarusian air carrier,” said Anatoly Glaz, press secretary of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry. “Moreover, this initiative was fraught with great risk. We managed to cross the border with the active assistance of our diplomats and Russian colleagues. The Egyptian authorities also came to meet us. Now they are in Egypt for further travel to their homeland.
As of April 28, there are ten citizens of the Republic of Belarus in Khartoum on the territory of Sudan, three of whom are accommodated in the Russian embassy complex. The locations of all Belarusians are known and are the safest in the current conditions. The consular service of the Embassy of Belarus in Egypt maintains constant contact with everyone. Methods and ways of their evacuation are being worked out.
Belarus is watching the development of the situation in Sudan with extreme anxiety and concern. We call on the sides of the confrontation to show restraint, to ensure the protection of civilians, diplomatic missions in Khartoum, and to create an opportunity for the evacuation of foreign citizens in Sudan.
We proceed from the fact that a peaceful settlement of the current crisis on the basis of a national consensus is the only possible way to resolve the situation.”
