The numbers of the day

The Sciensano Public Health Institute counts 2,999 people hospitalized in Belgium (-18% compared to the previous week), including 315 in intensive care (-17%), according to an update of its dashboard on Tuesday.

Between February 15 and February 21, there were an average of 209.3 daily hospital admissions for Covid-19, down 20% from the previous seven-day benchmark.

Between February 12 and 18, 9,587 new Sars-CoV-2 contaminations were detected on average per day, down 39% compared to the previous week. The incidence, which provides the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, reached 1,534 over 14 days.

Over the same period, nearly 40 people died per day on average while they were carrying the virus (-13%), bringing the death toll to more than 30.00 deaths since the start of the pandemic in Belgium.

Some 44,700 tests on average were also carried out daily, for a positivity rate of nearly 25%.

The reproduction rate of the virus stands at 0.85. When it is less than 1, this indicator means that the epidemic tends to slow down.

The Omicron variant represents nearly 69.7% of cases in Belgium.
