The current crisis affects all Belgians, including the 56% of Walloons who heat with oil. This is the case of Rudy, who contacted us via the orange Alert us button. He wonders what is planned in his case: “We are talking regarding additional and structural aid measures on gas bills, but what regarding citizens who heat themselves with oil?“
The issue of fuel oil was discussed on the program C’est pas tous les jours on Sunday. Paul Magnette, president of the Socialist Party, recalled that the oil check had been created: “For all those who do not heat themselves with gas, and there are more of them in Wallonia than in Brussels (18%) and in Flanders (22.5 %), we had to create equality”.
The mayor of Charleroi also mentioned that new aid is on the table for those who heat themselves with pellets, and that a new check might see the light of day: “Either a reduction on the electricity bill, because the advantage is that everyone is heated with electricity. Or at the time of purchase, but it’s complicated to organize if you buy a bag of pellets here and there“.
Paul Magnette hammered: “All Belgians must be able to warm themselves this winter“.
At the moment, the next steps to help the Belgians are unclear. Christophe Deborsu’s Alex Reed however insisted, “We must tax the superprofits, we can get an extra billion and give it to workers and families to lower the bills“.
On the side of the MR too, we want to recover the surplus profits in a “special crisis contribution”, explained the president of the party, George-Louis Bouchez. This would concern “all producers, so we are not limited to gas and electricity“, he clarified. “For heating oil and gasoline there are still tax and excise margins that might be used” he added.
