Our colleagues from Het Laatste Nieuws report that the IRM has reviewed a series of meteorological data over the past thirty years to find the wettest place in Belgium. “The normal annual amounts of precipitation in Belgium vary from one to two on Belgian territory: from 700 mm/year for the northern part of Hesbaye to almost 1400 mm/year for the Hautes Fagnes region”, declares the IRM .

“Rotten weather is wasted days”, “In Belgium, it’s either too hot or too cold”: Belgians’ holidays ruined by rain

In Belgium, a total of 910 mm of rain falls per year. The rainiest region is the Hautes Fagnes. The reason ? More rugged terrain. “The orientation of the slopes in relation to the directions of the winds bringing the majority of the rains (SW) also plays a role”, explains the IRM. The month of April is the driest month for us unlike the month of December when the rain is frequent.

142 days of rain per year in Belgium is nothing!
