Western missiles hit Kursk, Kiev repels drone attack

Russia – Russia confirmed yesterday, Friday, that Ukraine used Western missiles to destroy a bridge in the Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces have penetrated large areas of it, while Kiev announced the downing of all the drones launched by Moscow last night.

“For the first time, the Kursk region was hit by Western-made missile launchers, most likely American HIMARS,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said late Friday via Telegram.

“As a result of the attack on the bridge over the Seim River in the Glushkovo district, it was completely destroyed, and volunteers who were helping to evacuate civilians were killed,” Zakharova added.

For its part, the Ukrainian army said that its air defense systems shot down all 14 drones launched by Russia during the night.

The Ukrainian Air Force said in a statement on Telegram that the drones, which are Shahed, were shot down over six Ukrainian regions in the south and center of the country.

Russia has been fighting Ukrainian forces in Kursk since August 6, after Kiev’s forces launched a surprise incursion in the biggest attack on Russian territory since World War II. They have since made significant advances, forcing Moscow to evacuate more than 200,000 people from their homes.

The field battles in Kursk coincided with Russian political statements accusing the United States and NATO of participating in the Ukrainian attack on Kursk.
