KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Western Michigan women’s soccer team will continue conference play on Sunday followingnoon when the Broncos host Ohio. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT

Western Michigan remained undefeated in Mid-American Conference play by defeating Akron 2-0 on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Stadium. The Broncos received goals from Emily Pagett and Abby Werthman. Werthman has four goals and four assists this season, while Pagett has added three goals and three assists.

WE ARE NOT WERTHY

Abby Werthman transferred to Western Michigan prior to the 2023 season, and it has paid off in a big way for both parties. As a team, the Broncos are 7-3-2 overall and 3-0-2 in the Mid-American Conference.

Individually, Werthman has 12 points on four goals and four assists this season. Those 12 points are second highest on the team.

Werthman has been exceptional over the team’s last eight games, earning at least one point in six of those contests. Over the last eight matches, Werthman has 11 points, including a season high three points in the win at Akron this past Thursday.

HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE

The WMU Soccer Complex has become a tough place to play for opponents, as the Broncos have lost just one game at home this season. WMU hasn’t lost to a MAC opponent at home this year.

A big reason for that has been the home crowd, with the Brown and Gold ranking in the top third of the league in attendance. WMU is averaging over 300 fans per game, and the team’s last conference home loss came back on Oct. 16, 2022 once morest Eastern Michigan.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS

In the all-time series, Ohio has the upper hand, leading 14-8-5. The Bobcats also lead in Kalamazoo, boasting a 7-5-1 record. Over the last 10 games, Ohio is 6-3-1 once morest the Broncos, including three consecutive wins.

Ohio is 2-3 to open MAC play, earning wins over Northern Illinois and Buffalo. The Bobcats have lost to Kent State, Bowling Green and Toledo.

On offense, Shae Robertson is the team’s leading goal scorer, as she’s found the back of the net four times. Izzi Boyd and Scout Murray have each scored twice as well.

In net, Celeste Sloma is the only goalkeeper to see game action, as she’s earned a 4-6-2 record. She boats a 1.00 goals once morest average and .800 save percentage. She has four shutouts this season.
