Western diplomat: The Biden administration has set a deadline for resolving the Vienna negotiations international news

A Western diplomat revealed, on Wednesday, that the first of February is a realistic deadline for the Vienna talks on the Iranian nuclear deal.

“We are not sure regarding Tehran’s seriousness in reaching an agreement to revive the 2015 nuclear deal,” he told Archyde.com.

On the other hand, an Iranian official told Archyde.com: “We need two weeks to verify the lifting of sanctions before reversing the nuclear steps.”

A US official confirmed to the agency that President Joe Biden cannot guarantee that he will not withdraw from any agreement with Iran in the future.

decisive decision

In this context, two sources familiar with the plans of the White House said today that the administration of US President Joe Biden believes that only “weeks” separate it from reaching a decisive decision regarding the Vienna negotiations aimed at reviving the nuclear agreement with Iran, according to what was reported by the Axios news website.

The two sources, who were not named by the site, also revealed that “the Biden administration believes that it is now a matter of weeks before reaching the decisive decision point: either an agreement is reached and the United States returns to the nuclear agreement, or the talks collapse and the administration moves to impose more pressure on Iran.”

The two sources added that the Biden administration has set the end of January or early February as a deadline for making a decision, and intends to intensify its public messaging on Iran before that.

little progress

The US State Department spokesman, Ned Price, said in a daily press briefing, Wednesday, that negotiations are continuing in the Austrian capital, and that “slight progress” has been recorded in recent days.

But he acknowledged the need to “accelerate progress” to match the current pace of progress in Iran’s nuclear program.
