MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team competed in the Lock Haven Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 23 in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania.
West Virginia competed with redshirt senior Sarah Tait, redshirt sophomore Zara Zervos and redshirt sophomore Aubrie Custer in the women’s 6k Crimson Race, Saturday morning.
Tait set the West Virginia record at the West Branch Cross Country Course, posting a time of 20:14.4. The redshirt senior finished second overall in the Crimson Race.
Megan Metcalfe (Wright) previously held the record for the Mountaineers, with a time of 20:19 in 2003.
“Today was a very fun day for us, especially with Sarah setting the West Virginia record here in Lock Haven,” said WVU coach Sean Cleary. “We have been coming to this course for 20 years, which shows the quality of Mountaineers that have ran here.”
Zervos ran a 22:26.4 time, paired with Custer posting a 23.09.3 marking career best performances for both.
“The past couple of weeks have been quite difficult for the team on many fronts, but we brought in very strong results today with the three that competed,” Cleary added. “Zara and Aubrie both had career performances, and should be as proud of themselves as I am.”
West Virginia returns to competition on Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa. The race will take place at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course and is slated for an 11:45 a.m. ET start.
