PARKERSBURG — Two state officers in West Virginia will be in Parkersburg today for separate events.
Treasurer Riley Moore will discuss with students a new contest for tradespeople and vocational students in West Virginia from 10-10:30 a.m. at the Caperton Center for Advanced Technology at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.
Attorney General Patrick Morrisey will lead a roundtable discussion on substance abuse from 3:30-4:45 p.m. in the Black Annex on Market Street.
Both men are Republicans. Moore announced he is running for the House of Representatives 2nd District and Morrisey has announced he is running for governor.
Other Republicans running for the House 2nd District are Joseph Earley, Nate Cain and Alexander Gaaserud. Other Republicans who said they will run for governor are Moore Capito, Terri Bradshaw, Chris Miller, Edwin Vanover, Mac Warner and Rashida Yost.
The filing period for office in West Virginia is in January.
The What makes YOU Proud to be a West Virginia Skilled Worker? contest started Sept. 26. It will award to winners up to $12,000 to be deposited in a Jumpstart Savings Account.
In the meantime, a forum featuring Republican candidates for state offices will be held 6:15-9 p.m. today at the Rock Worship Center, 1305 37th St., Parkersburg. The forum is sponsored and hosted by Roger Conley, a former legislator and councilman in Vienna.
Candidates scheduled are running for governor, the House of Representatives, attorney general, treasurer, auditor, secretary of state and commissioner of agriculture.
