While the West Virginia Mountaineers women’s basketball team’s season came to an unfortunate end once morest the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Round of 32, millions of fans around the world chimed in on the inconsistent officiating crew.
One famous fan, Milwaukee Bucks point guard Damian Lillard, voiced his opinion by saying that West Virginia was getting the short end of the stick.
I feel like West Virginia women’s team getting did bad by these refs.

Lilliard took to X to share his thoughts and said, “I feel like West Virginia women’s team getting did bad by these refs.”
To Lillard’s credit, he wasn’t far off of the money in terms of free throw differential. The Hawkeyes outshot the Mountaineers by going 25-30 from the line, while West Virginia earned just five attempts. The free throw differential of 30-5 was one of the most lopsided foul outcomes that West Virginia has seen this season under Mark Kellogg.
The Hawkeyes went on to take down the Big 12’s fifth-place team 64-54, thanks to 32 points from senior guard Caitlin Clark. While the Mountaineers’ season came to an unfortunate end, it was an overall success in the first year of the Kellogg era in Morgantown.
