MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia plays host to BYU in a 7 p.m. matchup that will air on FOX under the lights at Milan Puskar Stadium. The Mountaineers (5-3, 3-2) bounced back from a two-game skid with last week’s loss at Central Florida, while the Cougars (5-3, 2-3) are hoping to avoid a two-game skid following last week’s 35-6 loss at Texas.
Pregame Notes: BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff is set to make his first career start in place of the injured Kedon Slovis. Retzlaff has not recorded a stat through the Cougars’ first eight games but is believed to be more mobile than Slovis, who is primarily a pocket passer. The Cougars’ defense has thrived on forcing turnovers and ranks tied for third nationally with 18 turnovers gained. West Virginia has a 14-5-1 all-time record on November 4 and most recently played on this date in 2017 when the Mountaineers knocked off Iowa State, 20-17. The Mountaineers also won their only previous meeting with BYU, that coming back in 2016 during Kalani Sitake’s first season as Cougars’ head coach.
