The West Travel Forum, the first major conference for tourism in the region of Western Greece, was held yesterday by thebest.gr with the participation of the Region of Western Greece and the co-organization of the Chamber of Achaia.
Thirty-six distinguished speakers and ten multi-thematic sessions “mapped” the facts and prospects of the region in the tourism industry, proposing solutions.
In the conference room of Royal Patras, tourism people, politicians, businessmen, etc. spoke. in a discussion that analyzed the current situation in Western Greece, which, although it has infrastructure, a wealth of monuments and history, natural beauty and modern infrastructure, is nevertheless in the last place of the main economic indicators.
The work of the Forum was opened by Deputy Minister of Tourism Elena Raptiwhich called on the local authorities and other bodies, in coordinated action, in order to develop Western Greece into a new tourist market.
Aikaterini Tzitzikosta, president of the Unesco National Committeeemphasized that the invaluable intangible cultural heritage is not exhausted in the monuments and that Unesco promotes tourism and travel culture.

The president of EOT Angela Gerekou he said that the organization has its doors open to cooperation with local agencies, to contribute to the achievement of the goals and to implement the visions and plans of each region.
Former Prime Minister and PASOK Member of Parliament for Achaia George Papandreou sent his own message, to exploit every available local advantage, all local routes, archaeological and historical landmarks, land goods, cultural institutions and areas of rare beauty.
He referred to the strategy followed by the Region of Western Greece the regional governor Nektarios Farmakis. He mentioned, among other things, the Olympia Land brand and the philosophy with which tourism is treated.
The president of the Chamber of Achaia Platonas Marlafekas identified the region’s inability to enter the tourism map in the fact that it is not included in strategic investments. Regarding the Chamber, he spoke regarding the Culture and Shopping program.
