West must prepare for long-overdue correction: National Interest – Xinhua English.news.cn

NEW YORK, July 17 (Xinhua) — The multipolar, post-Western world order is in motion, and the West must face the reality that it can no longer impose its “authority” on the world as it once did, The National Interest reported in early June.

“As the world wakes up to the implications of this shift in power, the foundations for a great correction are taking shape,” the article reads. “This correction will challenge the long-held beliefs and structures that have underpinned Western world domination in recent centuries, revealing in the process the nature of the West’s perceived legitimacy to lead the global hierarchy.”

This great correction will be driven by some major trends, which compel Western nations to “face and adapt to a future in which power must be shared with others in a multipolar world,” the article argues, observing that “ failure to recognize these trends, or attempts to strongly resist them, might raise significant risks not only for the West itself but also for global stability.”

Future conflicts can be avoided if this period of change is seen as an opportunity to build a more equitable world, rather than a crisis that threatens the privileged and the acquired, he adds. END
