West Bank: Israeli army withdraws from Tubas after killing 5 Palestinians

Palestine – The Israeli army withdrew on Wednesday from the city of Tubas and the town of Tammun in the northern West Bank after a military operation that lasted several hours during which 5 Palestinians were killed and others were injured and arrested.

Sources from there reported that the Israeli army withdrew completely from the city of Tubas and the town of Tamoun after an operation that lasted several hours.

Earlier, the official Palestinian news agency, WAFA, quoted security sources as saying that “five young men were martyred, and the occupation is holding their bodies.”

She added: “Four young men were martyred in the town of Tamoun during a bombing carried out by a drone, while the young man Fayez Fawaz Daraghmeh was martyred in the morning hours after his house was surrounded and he was injured, and his martyrdom was reported after he was injured and arrested.”

Anadolu Agency correspondent said that an Israeli force stormed the city of Tubas at dawn and surrounded a house.

He added that Israeli forces, backed by bulldozers and drones, opened fire and fired shoulder-mounted missiles at the besieged house, amidst hearing an exchange of gunfire.

Palestinians circulated news on social media about a drone bombing of a young man in Tubas, but he escaped without being injured.

Later, Israeli forces stormed the town of Tamoun, near Tubas, backed by military bulldozers, according to eyewitnesses.

Witnesses told Anadolu Agency that the army began searching houses, while hearing occasional gunfire.

Eyewitnesses reported that the Israeli army bombed a site in the town.

Witnesses said that resistance fighters detonated homemade explosive devices in Israeli vehicles, damaging them.

The Palestinian factions said that “their fighters are engaged in armed clashes with the Israeli forces storming Tubas and Tammun.”

For its part, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said in a statement received by Anadolu Agency: “A serious injury arrived at Tubas Governmental Hospital as a result of the occupation’s aggression on the town of Tamoun.”

In turn, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society stated in a statement that “the occupation forces are preventing our crews from reaching the targeted location by the bombing of an Israeli drone in the town of Tamoun.”

Anadolu Agency correspondent reported, citing eyewitnesses, that the Israeli army arrested at least 4 Palestinians after raiding dozens of homes in the town of Tamoun.

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry warned of the dangers of the “bloody” Israeli incursions into the West Bank.

She said in a statement: “We view with great concern the escalation resulting from the bloody raids carried out by the Israeli occupation forces on Palestinian towns, villages, camps and cities, which are witnessing a noticeable increase in the number of martyrs and wounded.”

She added: “The occupation sought to explode the situation in the West Bank through continuous incursions and systematic sabotage of the infrastructure and the foundations of the Palestinian existence, in conjunction with the war of extermination in the Gaza Strip.”

She added: “The ruling right wing in the occupying state continues to overthrow the remaining signed agreements and all the understandings that were achieved under international auspices, and is persisting in dismembering the Palestinian homeland, striking at its demographic and geographical unity, and turning it into isolated cantons.”

The Foreign Ministry indicated that Israel “aims to complete the crimes of ethnic cleansing and the creeping, declared and undeclared annexation of the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem, which will undermine the embodiment of a geographically contiguous Palestinian state.”

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry called on the international community, the United Nations and its relevant institutions to “assume their responsibilities in stopping the war of extermination and crimes of the occupation and its settlers and providing international protection for the Palestinian people.”

It also called for “taking the necessary binding measures in accordance with international law to implement the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice regarding the long-standing Israeli colonial occupation.”

This brings the Palestinian death toll in the West Bank to 630, since the Israeli army expanded its operations in the West Bank in conjunction with its devastating war in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.

With American support, Israel waged a devastating war on Gaza, leaving more than 132,000 dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and deadly famine.

In contempt of the international community, Israel continues the war, ignoring the UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate halt, and the International Court of Justice’s orders to take measures to prevent genocide and improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.
