Nikolai Patrushev addressed the reaction of Western countries to the elections in Russia, something he says demonstrates the West’s policy of supporting fascism and neocolonialism.
Western statements regarding the supposed lack of democracy in Russia are explained by the failure of their actions to destabilize the situation in the country, said the secretary of the Russian Security Council.
Speaking to the Russian newspaper Argumenty i Fakty, Nikolai Patrushev said he was “not surprised” by the fact that the United States, this week, had once once more accused Russia of a lack of democracy.
“Both Washington and London are angry that their actions to undermine Russia’s internal political situation have failed,” he explained. As for the European Union, it “has not had its own opinion for a long time”.
“European states are silent even regarding the blatant terrorist attack on [gasodutos] Nord Stream and stopped investigating what happened. Sovereignty and genuine democracy in EU countries have become history,” said Patrushev.
“It is important to realize that the Anglo-Saxons will never accept the true power of the people and the independence of states.
This also explains their indignation at the aspirations of Russian citizens for freedom and justice”, highlighted the secretary of the Russian Security Council.
Thus, Western countries suppress dissenting opinions in their own countries, limit people’s participation in political life and seek to suppress national and religious identity, Patrushev noted.
The West has long supported fascism in its various manifestations and now encourages neo-Nazism, uses terrorism for its own ends, sponsors anti-constitutional regimes and pursues neo-colonial policies, he added.
“At the same time, the West teaches ‘democracy’ to other countries, which sounds absolutely ridiculous”, summarized the senior Russian official.
