As the state of Tyrol announced on Sunday, there has been close cooperation with the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts for five years. The aim of this cooperation is to improve the training and competitiveness of graduates of the state conservatory. The new “Werner Pirchner Prize of the State of Tyrol” should be a further element.
According to university rector Ulrike Sych, the prize is intended to offer young musicians “valuable experience in international competition”. This is how the Tyrolean Minister of Culture Beate Palfrader (ÖVP) justified the creation of the prize. The naming following Werner Pirchner, who died in 2001, is a “homage to the work of this exceptional artist”.
Competition in Innsbruck, winning performances in Erl
The competition will be held in Innsbruck from mid-June to early October this year. Performance venues for the young musicians are the Conservatory and the House of Music. The competition is accompanied by special courses for the participants. The award winners will give concerts in the Festspielhaus in Erl, among other places.
The competition is to take place alternately every year for two groups of instruments. In the first year the instruments are trumpet, saxophone, trombone and flute, in the following year it is horn, clarinet and percussion.
