Welser Volksfest started with a lot of good humor and cosiness

Yesterday at 7.50 p.m. the mayor of Wels, Andreas Rabl, “cracked” a 50-liter barrel with just three well-aimed blows. The traditional beer tapping was a perfect success. With the test lighting, the Wels trade fair started the 145th year of the folk festival – affectionately called “Voiki” by the youngsters. Open until Sunday.

By the way: the term “test lighting” goes back to the beginning of electrification, when it was not yet possible to be sure that the guests would be able to see something when it got dark. At the dress rehearsal, many familiar faces came together. In addition to representatives of the Wels city senate, many local entrepreneurs were also drawn to the fairgrounds.

After the “Partyhirschen”, who heated up the atmosphere yesterday, the “Zwirn” have their musical performance today. Very important for families: This followingnoon there is a discount of up to 50 percent on the rides in the amusement park. The space between the Weinkost and the Welser Tiergarten was quickly fully booked in the first year without corona restrictions. Despite the rather modest weather forecast, the showmen expect good business.

In unison with the folk festival, thousands of garden lovers are once more expected at “Blooming Austria” from today. In Hall 6, unique show gardens are arranged on more than 2000 m2. The third pillar of the springtime exhibition in Wels is dedicated to the topic of “Holidays & Excursions”. The leisure fair awakens the desire to travel far away. The next holiday destination can also be nearby: the majority of the exhibitors come from Austria.
