Welser Businessrun: A Success Story | News.at

It will soon be that time again: on May 26th, the people of Wels will once again demonstrate their sportiness at the 12th Welser Businessrun. The running event is now a fixed point in the city’s sports year.

The OÖN have also been involved as a media partner since the beginning. In preparation for this year’s edition, the OÖN look back on the history of the running classic:

  • The early beginnings: The OÖN announced the first Wels Business Run on July 2nd, 2010 as a “new chapter in the traditional history of running”. In sweaty temperatures around 27 degrees, the 75 runners of the BRP-Powertrain achieved the first company victory.
  • Strong sequel: With an increase in registrations of around 40 percent and almost 1000 participants, the business run had a strong second round. 96 employees of the Wels-Grieskirchen clinic put their physical health to the test and took first place.
  • growth course: With 1424 reports, the event had four figures for the first time – and that clearly. The winners were the 125 runners who started for the TGW.
  • Reorganization: The fourth business run came up with numerous innovations: The rating for company and business teams was separated. For the first time there are glass winners’ trophies and company pavilions.
  • The first 2000: For the first time there are more than 2000 reports – 2155 to be exact. The Traunkreis Vet Clinic takes the overall victory with a full 276 participants – and also donates 4000 euros.
  • spoiled for success: The era of the “Sisters of the Cross Europe Central” began: The religious company won the company ranking and defended first place in 2016 and 2017.
  • Fit im Alter: Exactly on his 84th birthday, the former mayor of Sattledt, Volker Werner-Tutschku, is taking part – making him the oldest participant. A birthday cake awaits him at the finish.
  • Change of location: The start and finish will be moved from the town square to the exhibition grounds. Trodat is the main sponsor for the first time.
  • International: With 3306 registrations from 29 nations, the run cracked the next thousand mark. With a narrow victory, Fronius International (370 participants) ended the winning streak of the Sisters of the Cross (354).
  • Anniversary: In the tenth run, 45 percent of the 4192 registered runners were women – more than ever before. Nine companies each had more than 100 active members.
  • Return: A downpour cooled down the runners during the run in 2022 after a two-year break from the pandemic – that didn’t dampen their good spirits. Fronius International is the first company to provide more than 500 runners, 542 to be precise.
