Alpine Club invites winter sports enthusiasts to the avalanche update
Innsbruck (OTS) – Winter is approaching and with it the first tours in the snow. How does good tour planning work? What is and what can ski touring guru do? How can the risk of avalanches be minimized and what should be done if something does happen? The Alpine Club offers ski tourers, freeriders and other winter sports enthusiasts every opportunity to prepare for the season in good time. Among other things, he will tour Austria with the “Lawinenupdate” from November 23rd, 2023, on December 13th. there is a free live stream. The series of lectures is intended to give both beginners and advanced skiers a good start to the touring winter.
“Ski and snowshoe tours offer a sporty nature experience with addictive potential. It’s not surprising that more and more people are getting excited regarding them. But you should never ignore the risks – that’s why it’s very important to us at the Alpine Club to lay the foundations for a safe one “To convey tour planning and to train the athletes in the correct use of emergency equipment,” explains Michael Larcher, mountain guide, head of the mountain sports department at the Alpine Club and speaker at the avalanche update.
Larcher appeals to every tourer to take a closer look at their equipment before their first tour: “This doesn’t just mean taking the skis to the service and packing emergency equipment in their backpack, but also practicing intensively beforehand. in order to be able to handle it safely in an emergency.” There are also methods when planning tours and making decisions in the terrain that help minimize the risk of an avalanche accident.

Avalanche update: Concentrated avalanche knowledge for winter sports enthusiasts
The Alpine Club’s successful lecture tour will once once more provide valuable tips for getting started in the touring winter in 2023/24. In two and a half exciting hours, avalanche expert Michael Larcher examines selected avalanche events from last winter and helps the audience sharpen their awareness of the danger patterns and internalize basic safety precautions. It also explains what internet technology can contribute to safety on ski tours – for example the apps Alpenvereinaktiv and Skitourenguru.
The second part of the lecture offers a lot of practical knowledge for ski tourers: How does the emergency equipment work, how does the avalanche transceiver check work, how do you efficiently search for buried people and where can you find the right courses to practice in the event of an avalanche?
The “Avalanche Update” with Michael Larcher will tour through Austria from November 23rd, 2023 to January 31st, 2024.
