The Samosir Regency Government (Pemkab) sent off 106 people from the Samosir Vicariate to attend the Grand Mass with the World Catholic Church Leader, Pope Francis.
The Grand Mass is part of a series of Pope Francis’ Apostolic Journeys in Indonesia which will be held on September 5, 2024 at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta.
Samosir Regent Vandiko Gultom said that the activity was carried out starting from the longing of the people of Samosir Regency to join in celebrating the Great Mass with Pope Francis at the GBK Stadium in Jakarta. Due to the longing of the people, the Samosir Regency Government then submitted a proposal for a participant quota to the Archdiocese to be able to attend the event and in the end the proposal was approved. Samosir Regency was given a quota to attend the Great Mass.
“My hope is that all participants will make the most of this very rare opportunity. I ask everyone to pray for our beloved Samosir Regency to remain safe and for the development of Samosir Regency to continue to increase and continue. May God’s blessings be directly felt by all of God’s people who are departing. May God bless us all, arrive safely at our destination and return to Samosir Regency,” said Vandiko, Monday (2/9).
On the same occasion, Father Elio Sihombing, OFMCap, representing all Catholics in Samosir, expressed his gratitude and thanks to the Regent of Samosir who had facilitated the congregation’s departure to attend the Grand Mass.
“We are very happy about this activity, the kindness of the Samosir Regency Government who happily and generously gave us the opportunity to attend the Grand Mass with Pope Francis in Jakarta,” said Father Elio. (N-2)
