Weil am Rhein: 23 people share a seat

Shortly before 10 a.m. on Monday, employees of the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security noticed a heavily loaded Seat Alhambra at the motorway customs near Weil am Rhein (D). The seven-seat family van was loaded as if it were a bus. 23 people got out of the car. Nine adults and 14 children were counted, as the German police announced on Tuesday. It was Ukrainian nationals, as it was called when asked.

The travel group was a large family who started their journey in Poland. Entry and exit to and from Ukraine is currently mainly via Poland. That’s where the car was bought. Their destination was Bern, where the driver, also a Ukrainian, lives. This will now receive a fine because he transported several people without any security.

The extended family was able to continue their journey “following the modalities were completed”, as it was also said. Seven people were able to continue in the seat, but the press office of the Freiburg police headquarters did not know how the rest got to their destination.

Quite a few refugees visited their families in Ukraine over Christmas. Men have not been able to leave the country as a result of mobilization, while their wives and children have fled. With protection status S, you can travel abroad and return to Switzerland freely.
