Earlier today, the Apple released (for the first time) the official weight of its long-awaited mixed reality (AR/VR) headset, the Vision Pro. The device, as we know, was announced at WWDC23, but its pre-sale only started today.

According to the Cupertino giant, its newest product weighs between 21.2 and 22.9 ounces — which is equivalent to 600-650 grams. Furthermore, the company confirmed that the headset’s (independent) battery weighs 353g.

This weight variation, according to the company, can be attributed to the configuration of the Light Seal and the headset headband. This information provides buyers with a clearer understanding of what to expect when using Vision Pro.

When compared to other headsets available on the market, the Apple device is not that heavy — but it’s not exactly light either. O Vive Pro 2 (from HTC), for example, weighs approximately 850gwhile the PlayStation VR2 (from Sony), near 560g.

Among the Meta devices, the Quest 2 is the lightest, weighing 503g; then we have the Quest 3com 515g. Interestingly, the Meta Quest Pro — which we have already compared with the Vision Pro — has a weight of 722g.

Among other devices, we have the Valve Indexwhich weighs regarding 810gin addition to the HP Reverb G2with an approximate weight of 550g.

Despite being heavier than most other headsets, it’s good to remember that Maçã’s headset uses an external battery, unlike the ones listed here, which have built-in batteries — with the exception of the Valve Index.

As for comfort, some reviews highlighted that it can be tiring to use the Vision Pro during the first few moments. However, some users said that over time the weight becomes less bothersome.

It is important to remember that each person may have a different experience with the weight of the headset. This may depend on your personal preferences, previous experiences with similar products and even your head size.
