The Venezuelan Prison Observatory (OVP) confirmed the transfer of more than 700 political prisoners to the Tocorón and Tocuyito prisons.

In international news, the social network X began to be suspended in Brazil by order of the Supreme Court and it was learned that tickets for the concerts that the band Oasis will offer in 2025 were sold out.

In several states of the country, especially in the west, more than 20 hours passed before electricity service was restored following the national blackout that occurred in the early hours of August 30.

In Maracaibo, Zulia state, electricity returned shortly after midnight on Saturday, August 31, and in the course of the early morning it also returned to several sectors of Falcón and Lara. In the Andes, parts of Mérida and Táchira had electricity between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm, only to remain in darkness again for 12 more hours. In Bolívar state, cities such as Upata, Puerto Ordaz and Ciudad Guayana accumulated more than 20 hours without service.

By the morning of August 31, electricity supply seemed to have returned to normal in much of the country, except for a few specific areas. For example, in Caracas, residents of Palo Verde, in the Sucre municipality of Miranda state, reported that they were still without power by 9:00 am.

The Venezuelan Prison Observatory (OVP) reported on Saturday, August 31, that the government of Nicolás Maduro carried out the transfer of more than 700 political prisoners, who were detained in the post-election protests, to the Carabobo Penitentiary Center (Tocuyito) and the Aragua Penitentiary Center (Tocorón), located in Carabobo and Aragua, respectively.

In a statement, the agency said that on Sunday, August 25, according to the family members, a group of detainees were admitted to the Capital Judicial Internment Center “Yare III”, where they allegedly had their hair shaved and were dressed in blue shirts and pants.

The OVP also documented that on Monday, August 27, transfers were reported from the headquarters of the Bolivarian National Police (PNB) in San Francisco, in the state of Zulia, and from the Criminal Investigations Directorate of the PNB, in Barinas, to the prisons of Tocorón and Tocuyito. In all cases, the authorities denied information to the relatives about the new destination of the prisoners’ confinement.

Other transfers recorded by the OVP were from the states of Nueva Esparta, Táchira and Apure, on Friday, August 30.

The suspension was ordered on Friday, August 30, by magistrate Alexandre de Moraes, after tycoon Elon Musk, owner of X, failed to comply with the order to appoint, within 24 hours, a legal representative for the platform in Brazil.

In his ruling, the judge ordered the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel, the regulatory body) to immediately adopt “all necessary measures” to implement the decision against the social network “throughout the national territory.”

The magistrate also determined daily fines of 50,000 reais (almost 9,000 dollars or 8,064 euros) for those who tried to access the social network through the Virtual Private Network (VPN), a tool that creates a secure connection between a device and the Internet and is used to protect privacy. online.

6. Tickets for Oasis concerts were sold out

Tickets for British band Oasis’ 2025 UK and Irish shows sold out on Saturday, August 31, the day they went on sale, the band said.
