This Monday, November 4, the Network for the Rights of Girls, Boys and Adolescents (Redhnna) released a report of cases of violations against minors in Venezuela. On the other hand, in Catia, Caracas, firefighters responded to a fire in a warehouse.

The Network for the Rights of Girls, Boys and Adolescents (Redhnna) counted 37 cases of sexual abuse against minors in September 2024. Likewise, it identified, within the same population group, 31 victims of cruel treatment, mistreatment and neglect , according to a report from the organization released on Monday, November 4.

“In 35% of acts of sexual violence, the aggressor was the father, mother or other relatives of the victims. In 8 cases, the perpetrators were security agencies (police or military), in 13 the information about the aggressors is unknown and in three other incidents the victims were attacked by neighbors,” says Redhnna.

Based on 282 news items, the network identified different violations of the rights of Venezuelan children, among which violations of the right to survival stand out.

On October 8, Redhnna reported a total of 278 cases of sexual abuse against children and adolescents between March and July 2024. According to the NGO, every 13 hours a minor was a victim of sexual abuse in the country.

At least seven people were affected by smoke inhalation during a fire that started on Sunday, November 3 after 11:00 pm in a warehouse located on Argentina Street in Catia, Caracas.

The structure belongs to the Frenos Medina company, close to the Central Madeirense supermarket in Pérez Bonalde. Approximately 80 people were also evacuated from the site, according to information from the Capital District Fire Department.

The fire department explained that the fire originated in the company’s warehouse, where there were cleaning products.

The shed, made of concrete blocks and a zinc roof, collapsed due to damage caused by the fire. In addition, the flames spread to two other structures, one with five floors and another with seven floors, so they estimate that the affected area reached 2,500 square meters.

4. Cleaning and search for victims continue in Spain by DANA
