Folk method of scaring away the weevil from strawberries during its flowering

May 26 – NVL. The harmful insect will “host” in the garden until the strawberries have not a single bud left: the entire crop will be destroyed

Strawberry weevil can be safely called one of the most dangerous strawberry pests. During breeding, which occurs during the flowering period of the berry, the female lays eggs in buds. One egg is laid in one flower bud, and the passage is closed with mucus. The pest will lay its eggs for 30 days until the strawberries bloom. During the summer, one weevil lays 100 eggs, which will pupate right in the bud. You can not expect berries from strawberries affected by weevil.

Weevils cause the greatest damage to strawberries of early varieties. They damage the central buds, from which the largest berry is formed. Pest treatment is carried out before flowering. To do this, various preparations are sold in garden stores. But, if you do not want to process strawberries with “chemistry”, then you can use a folk remedy that repels the weevil. It’s tooth powder.

With it, you can scare away a harmful insect – he himself will escape from the strawberry garden. The powder just crumbles over the leaves like dust. For these purposes, it is better to use mint tooth powder.

You can also prepare an aqueous solution. 50 grams (one jar) of powder are dissolved in 10 liters of water. The solution is infused for 5-6 hours and strawberry leaves can be sprayed. Processing is carried out on the eve of flowering or during the appearance of the first flowers.

The next day following treatment, parts of the plant that are damaged by the pest are removed (it is better to burn). After fruiting, strawberries can be re-treated for prevention. The weevil does not tolerate the smell of mint, so it will soon leave the area. To protect strawberries from the “flower beetle”, the aisle and edges of the beds are sown with lemon mint. The smell of its essential oils repels the pest and you can no longer worry that the weevil will damage the strawberries.
